CLEARFIELD, Utah — Active duty and reserve pilots from Hill Air Force Base will participate in night-flying operations beginning this week.

Through April 11, the 388th and Reserve 419 Fighter Wings will practice flying at night to maintain combat readiness, as well as the ability to fly in different types of weather.

Pilots will complete the night flying out of Hill Air Force Base by 10:30 p.m. Airspace availability on the Utah Test and Training Range, weather, and other elements will dictate the actual flying schedules.

Night-flying exercises at Hill help pilots remain proficient in skills required during their deployment.

Hill says that those living near the base can expect to hear some increased activity in the skies as pilots continue to practice their nighttime combat flying skills.

In a press release, Hill Air Force Base said that all three of the 419 Fighter Wing’s squadrons have deployed in support of combat operations. The nighttime flying exercises support those operations.

The 34th Fighter Squadron is deployed to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. This is in support of NATO’s defense posture, the base said in a statement.
