UPDATE: Murder suspect arrested in Salt Lake City homicide investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — Police in Salt Lake City are investigating a homicide near 2100 South and 600 East.

Sgt. Mark Wian with SLCPD said that officers initially responded to a call about a person with a weapon, and when they arrived he said they found a vehicle that had crashed into two homes and that a person was dead.

Wian said that SWAT team members were called to the scene this morning, and they are still investigating and trying to determine what happened and are still trying to determine if there is a suspect in this investigation but he said they do not believe there is any danger to the public at this time. 

Police have shut down the area of 600 East from 2100 South to Simpson Ave and closed Wilmington Ave from 500 East to 700 East and are asking that the public avoid the area. 

UPDATE: Murder suspect arrested

SLCPD has arrested 38-year-old Levon Garo Meguerditchian and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail. He is being charged with Murder, Obstruction of Justice, and Felony Discharge of a Firearm in the Direction of a Vehicle.

According to the police report, Meguerditchian hosted a party at his residence at 609 East Wilmington Avenue, when someone at the party allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol and ran from the house.

Abdourazak Mouhoumed, who is 18-year-old, was one of the people who left the party and drive away, that’s when Meguerditchian allegedly pulled out a gun and shot it several times towards Mouhoumed’s vehicle.

This victim crashed into two homes along 600 East after being shot, police say neither homeowner heard the crash, and no one called 911. Officers attempted CPR once they arrived, but Mouhoumed died on the scene.

The SLCPD officers also received information on a 17-year-old being held hostage and assaulted by Meguerditchian at his residence. During the SWAT search, they were able to locate the 17-year-old who had non-life-threatening injuries.

Meguerditchian and possibly others may have also allegedly used a flashlight to search for shell casings after shooting Mouhoumed.
