Jordan District puts together hundreds of kits to help homeless students

RIVERTON — Jordan School District administrators filled the gym at South Hills Middle School in Riverton for an annual charity project that helps homeless students.
Dozens of people packed 800 boxes of food, hygiene kit bags, and backpacks full of school supplies that will be handed out on the first day of school at 61 campuses across the district.
Jordan Education Foundation Director Steven Hall believes administrators love doing this every year.
“They know the kids that are going to be hungry. They know the kids these are going to go to. They can’t help but feel very, very fulfilled,” Hall says.
Schools will also get drawstring bags directly to give items to children more discreetly.
There are an estimated 2,000 homeless students in the district. Many schools also have food pantries to help homeless students and the hungry all year round.
Walmart donated most of the items, and their employees will drop off the boxes to campuses tomorrow.
