Semi transporting PVC glue catches fire on southbound I-15 in Sandy

SANDY, Utah — Police and fire crews responded to a semi trailer fire on I-15 in the southbound lane near 9100 South at 3:42 a.m. Sunday morning.
Trooper Tara Wahlberg said the driver was having mechanical issues so she pulled over and saw that her axels were on fire.
She said that the driver attempted to extinguish the flames with some water that she had but it didn’t work.
Fire crews arrived and were able to put out the fire.
Wahlberg said the trailer contained PVC glue which is highly flammable.
The driver of the semi trailer was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and has since been released.
Utah Highway Patrol said in a tweet that the right lanes will be closed until about noon.
This morning at 3:42 A.M. we received reports of a semi trailer on fire on I-15 SB 9100 South. As a result the right lanes will be closed until about noon today while crews clean up and assess the damage.
