GENOLA, Utah — A small plane crashed toward the southern end of Utah Lake Thursday afternoon, according to Cpl. Rich Glenn with the Santaquin Police Department.

Authorities are unsure how many people were onboard the four-person aircraft, but there are no reported injuries from the crash down near 2000 N Whitelake Road in Genola.

Glenn said the pilot told everyone they were going to be OK before witnesses observed passengers parachuting out of the plane.

“Some of the passengers had ejected themselves and used a parachute,” Glenn said. The plane had a parachute on board.

While the cause for the crash is unknown, Glenn said the pilot believed it had to do with “a fuel or motor issue.”

Authorities said the plane crashed in a “swampy” place and they’re still working to reach the area.

“We’re still trying to get to the occupants and the plane crash site and get the FAA the information they need,” Glenn said.
