SALT LAKE CITY — The cowardly lion, Toto, Dorothy and all of the beloved characters of The Wizard of Oz will be on the big screen today for two showings. The first is Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and the second is on Monday night at 7:00 p.m.

The movie is being shown to honor Judy Garland’s birthday. Garland starred as Dorothy, and died in 1969 at the age of 47.

The film is being offered by Fathom Events. Theatres in Sugarhouse, Salt Lake, and West Valley are each offering an afternoon and evening showtime.

The Wizard of Oz is the most-seen film in movie history, according to the U.S. Library of Congress. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Film. It won for best original song (for Over the Rainbow) and for best original score by Herbert Stothart.
