Teachers, staff from SLC School District recently exposed to COVID-19

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County Health Department confirms that a group of teachers and staff in the Salt Lake City School District was recently exposed to COVID-19.

They were attending a district-wide training event on Tuesday and Wednesday at Highland High School when they were exposed to COVID-19. James Tobler, the President of the Salt Lake Teachers Association confirmed the two-day training and told KSL that all district teachers had been asked to attend.

To accommodate the number of people in attendance, a speech by the superintendent of Salt Lake City Schools was simulcast to four different rooms of Highland High School.

Tobler also said that masks were strongly encouraged, but not required of the group. The training took place before Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall’s mask order was finalized on Friday.

The Salt Lake County Health Department is conducting contact tracing for the event as well as searching for other possible exposures.

Salt Lake City schools begin their first day of classroom instruction tomorrow.
