WEST VALLEY CITY — The teen accused of shooting and killing two Hunter High School students, critically wounding a third, is now facing seven charges — including two counts of first-degree murder.

Other charges include felony discharge of a firearm with bodily injury, felony possession of a firearm, and obstruction of justice.

There is still a chance the 14-year-old could be charged as an adult.

Today’s hearing was supposed to be the teen’s arraignment, where he would make an initial plea. Attorneys for both sides agreed to push that to March 3, as charges weren’t officially filed until Wednesday morning.

On Jan. 13, three students from Hunter High School were shot, two of them killed. A third, 15-year-old Ephraim Asiata survived but remains hospitalized.

The victims have been identified as 15-year-old Paul Tahi and 14-year-old Tivani Lopati. Both boys were students at Hunter High School. Police have not released further details about the weapon used, or any possible motive yet.

Police said the shooting happened after two groups of students engaged in a fight that turned physical, and deadly.
