SALT LAKE CITY — When Utah lawmakers begin the 2022 Legislative Session on Jan. 19, they will have some attendance options thanks to COVID.

Senate President Stuart Adams told KSL NewsRadio that he and Speaker of the House Brad Wilson have talked, and agreed that the surge in COVID-19 cases in Utah right now is affecting many sectors of society.

A blended 2022 legislative session in Utah

Because of that, they plan what Adams called a blended, virtual session. It’ll be similar to the 2021 Legislative Session.

“So you could show up in person or you could show up virtually. That was your (a lawmaker’s) choice. This year we’re recommending masks. You don’t need to wear one but we’re recommending it.”

While he didn’t make any specific recommendations, Adams reiterated what Gov. Spencer Cox said in his COVID-19 update on Friday morning, which is that anything other than an N95 respirator “probably doesn’t work.”
