Utah reports 863 new cases of COVID-19, 6 additional deaths Friday

SALT LAKE CITY– The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) reports 863 new cases of COVID-19 with six additional deaths on Friday.
UDOH states a hefty increase of 8,649 tests administered to residents around the state on Friday.
The seven-day rolling average of positive tests per day is 614 with a positive rate of 9.1%, according to the health department.
As of Friday, state officials said hospitals in Utah housed 225 patients with COVID-19 cases statewide. A total of 2,188 people have been hospitalized since the beginning of the pandemic.
State officials reported six more deaths on Friday, three males and three females. Four of the deaths involved residents of long-term care facilities in Salt Lake County. One death came from Davis County, also a resident of a long-term care facility. One victim, from Washington County, was hospitalized at the time of death.
The state reported the age range of all but one person who died as between 65-84; the other was between the ages of 45-64.
UDOH considers 23,715 of the COVID-19 cases in Utah “recovered.” They consider anyone with a diagnosis date of more than three weeks ago, who has not passed away, to be recovered.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
- Get a flu shot.
