Utah Food Festival to feature local artisans, food history

SALT LAKE CITY — The Natural History Museum of Utah will host the Utah Food Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are thrilled to have such amazing partners in Harmons, Caputo’s, Caffe Ibis, Prime Corn, and Wasatch Community Gardens for this year’s festival,” wrote Dr. Jason Cryan, the Natural History Museum of Utah’s Sarah B. George executive director, in a press release.
Education and exploration at the Utah Food Festival
According to the event’s website, the Utah Food Festival will offer opportunities to learn about modern and ancient foods.
Experts from the museum will provide lessons about ancient potatoes. Additionally, one workshop will feature the ancient preparation of corn.
For those interested in modern approaches to food, there will also be opportunities for visitors to learn about coffee brewing, cheese, and chocolate.
The workshops have additional costs. The event requires pre-registration. The event has limited seats available, per the event’s website.
“Food is an integral part of our culture and this festival allows us to celebrate and appreciate the rich culinary heritage of our region,” wrote Mariah Ballard, the director of specialty cheese at Harmon’s, in the press release.
Ballard will be presenting a cheese-tasting workshop, according to the event website.
Visiting the Utah Food Festival
Even if visitors decide not to attend a workshop, there are plenty of ways to experience the festival.
Guests will have the opportunity to shop and sample the products of local vendors.
To attend the event, visitors must pay admission to the NHMU. The website recommends purchasing tickets in advance, as they may sell out.
