SALT LAKE CITY — Across the country, national parks highlight the beauty of the natural world. From forests to mountains, from rivers to deserts, the United States has a vast array of wonders for people to enjoy.
One of the ways that people can enjoy the sights and sounds of national parks from the comfort of their homes is by viewing art inspired by nature.
Three such artists have been selected to participate in the Zion National Park Artists-in-Residence program for 2026, granting them housing for a one-month, highly independent residency within the park.
Sam Wu, a concert composer living in the park during the month of February, will host the year’s first Artist-in-Residence program on Friday, Feb. 13, from 6-7 p.m. at the Canyon Community Center in Springdale.
Following Wu, Stephanie Potter Corwin, a multidisciplinary digital artist, will take up residency in June.
Tanya Wischerath, painter and tattoo artist, will round out the year’s residency program from October to November.
The three Artists-in-Residence were chosen by a jury of representatives from Zion National Park, park partners and community arts leaders. The artists submitted previous works to the jury and shared their desire to participate in an interview with the jury.
Wu, Corwin and Wischerath were chosen based on their individual skill and merit, coupled with an understanding of the mission of the National Park Service.
While working at the park, the residents will present two public programs highlighting their medium, interests, experience and audience. They will also host periodic open studio hours for visitors to interact with them and their artistic process.
Finally, each of the three artists will donate an original piece of work within six months of leaving Zion to the park itself, reflecting on their time spent there.
Professional writers, composers and all visual artists were eligible to participate in the program.
