SALT LAKE CITY — The 76th Emmy Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, and some of television’s most-esteemed awards shows are among the top contenders.
The FX series “The Bear,” chronicling the life and anxieties of a master chef and his talented (and sometimes volatile) friends, set in a Chicago sandwich shop, scored 23 Emmy nominations in the comedy category. This broke the previous 22-nomination record set by NBC’s “30 Rock” in 2009.
While “The Bear” didn’t break the all-time nomination record (that’s still held by HBO, now MAX’s “Game of Thrones,” with 32 Emmy nominations as reported by CNN), it did make its mark and gave all its fans the chance to let out a united utterance of “yes, chef!”
Other shows nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series” include:
- ABC’s “Abbott Elementary”
- MAX’s “Hacks”
- Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”
- Apple TV’s “Palm Royale”
- MAX’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (which finished up its impressive 24 year run in April)
- FX’s “Reservation Dogs”
- FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows.”
‘Shōgun’ wins the drama
FX’s ‘Shōgun’ pulled in the most nominations of the year, receiving 25 in the drama category. The historical drama is based on a 1975 novel by James Clavell, and has a predominantly Japanese cast. Most of the dialogue is in Japanese as well.
Other shows in the “Outstanding Drama Series” include:
- Netflix’s “3 Body Problem”
- Prime Video’s “Fallout”
- Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”
- Apple TV’s “Slow Horses”
- Netflix’s “The Crown”
- MAX’s “The Gilded Age”
- Apple TV’s “The Morning Show.”

He wrote, produced and starred in the series, scoring a nomination for “Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.”
Alongside that, he was nominated for best actor in a limited series. Actress Jessica Gunning, who played his stalker, was also nominated, as best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series.
The show’s Nava Mau made history, who today became the first trans Latina actress to earn an Emmy nomination. She was nominated in the best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series category along with Gunning.
‘The Crown,’ anthologizing Queen Elizabeth II’s long reign, has come to an end (as far as we know), and racked up 6 nominations this time around.
