SALT LAKE CITY — Mundi Project, a Utah-based music nonprofit, said it has received a $130,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

A press release from the Mundi Project said the money is coming through the NEA’s ArtsHERE initiative. According to its website, the NEA developed ArtsHERE to help improve arts access in underserved communities.

Oftentimes, geography, economics, race or disability can restrict opportunities to participate in the arts. Nonprofits that focus on bringing the arts to those communities can provide opportunities to people who might otherwise go without.

The nonprofit has a similar goal to that of the ArtsHere initiative. Currently, the Utah nonprofit operates three programs; the Piano Bank, Harmony Hub, and Mundi Project Presents. Per the press release, the nonprofit’s mission aligns with the ArtsHERE grant’s purpose.

“Communities across our state need access to high-quality music education and resources in order to flourish and enhance their quality of life. I’m excited to lead our initiatives that will help us strengthen organizational capacity and professionalism in order to ultimately serve more individuals in the community through music,” said Cody Goetz, executive director of Mundi Project.

The grant recipients were chosen from a pool of over 4,000 organizations, per the press release. Of those, 112 groups were chosen.

Additionally, the press release said that grant recipients will participate in meetings intended to help recipients share and develop knowledge.
