Zion National Park announces seasonal lotteries for Angels Landing

SPINGDALE, Utah — For hikers who wish to visit Angels Landing in 2023, Zion National Park will hold four seasonal lotteries throughout the upcoming year.
According to a news release, the park had a successful launch of the Angels Landing Pilot Permit Program in 2022. And these lotteries are building off that.
“Issuing permits is something we did after substantial public input, and it has been effective,” Jeff Bradybaugh, Zion National Park superintendent said in a news release. “In 2023, park rangers will continue recording data and enhancing the pilot program to maximize the number of people making the hike while minimizing crowding and congestion on this half-mile, perennially popular trail.”
Dates for Angels Landing 2023 season lotteries
- Jan. 1 to Jan. 20. Permits will be issued Jan. 25 for hikes from March 1 to May 31
- April 1 to April 20. Permits will be issued April 25 for hikes from June 1 to Aug. 31.
- July 1 to July 20. Permits will be issued July 25 for hikes from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30.
- Oct. 1 to Oct. 20. Permits will be issued Oct. 20 for hikes from Dec. 1 to Feb. 29, 2024.

According to the news release, visitors can also apply the day before hikes to get a permit to visit Angels Landing. Visitors can apply for the day-before hikes by clicking here.
Since the Angels Landing Pilot Permit Program started up on April 1, 2022, the park has issued almost 200,000 permits to hikers, according to the news release.
Park officials have been informed by visitors that the program is succeeding at lowering crowds and congestion on the last half mile from Scout Lookout to Angels Landing.
