1 rescued, 1 recovered in Blackridge Reservoir in Herriman

HERRIMAN — Emergency crews recovered the body of a missing man in Blackridge Reservoir in Herriman Saturday evening.

According to Sgt. Greg Shaver with the Herriman Police Department, Sa Mafutaga, 21, and Deng Ador, 22, were in the Reservoir when a bystander called police to report “two individuals in distress” at approximately 5:40 p.m.

Mafutaga was reportedly able to get to shore, but Ador was struggling in the water. Police said Mafutaga went back into the reservoir to try to help Ador, but was unsuccessful.

Police said bystanders got into the reservoir to help Mafutaga, then he was treated at the scene for injuries and transported to a local hospital. Police said he is expected to recover.

Ador went underwater approximately 35 yards from the shore, according to police.

The Unified Fire Authority, South Jordan Fire Department water rescue teams initiated a search, then the Utah Highway Patrol dive team worked alongside them.

“After several hours of searching, UHP’s submersible robot located Ador at 10:40 p.m.,” police said in a release.

Ador’s body was recovered by divers at approximately 11 p.m., and he was pronounced deceased.

Details on what led up to the incident were not immediately clear.

The Herriman City Police Department asked that anybody with information on the incident call the department at 801-858-0045, referencing case HR25-16361.

Police said Blackridge Reservoir will remain closed until further notice from Herriman City.
