Authorities stop wrong-way driver in Beaver County

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol pursued and stopped a driver who was seen traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 15 in Beaver County Tuesday.
A black Lexus was seen on UDOT cameras traveling north on the shoulder of the southbound lanes just after 11 a.m. Then just before noon, the driver was spotted traveling the other direction — heading south in the northbound lanes at mile marker 103, south of Beaver.
Just after 12 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said authorities stopped the vehicle. Roden said the driver was initially pulled over for a traffic stop, then they fled the wrong direction.
Roden said the inital traffic stop happened on Interstate 15 North near mile marker 112, north of Beaver.
“The vehicle fled northbound and the troopers pursuit till it exited at mile marker 120,” Roden said. “The vehicle got back on going wrong way northbound in the southbound lanes and troopers terminated (the pursuit).”
The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office then found the vehicle again just north of Beaver and pursued again, Roden said. The vehicle once again crossed into the wrong direction of travel near mile marker 105, driving on the shoulder.
“A northbound trooper and a southbound deputy were able to get it to stop and pinned it in off of the road,” Roden said.
He also confirmed the vehicle was stolen in California.

Utah Highway Patrol later announced that the driver was taken into custody.
Roden could not confirm whether any crashes were caused by the wrong-way driver.
