SALT LAKE CITY — Two people were hurt after a car and motorcycle collided on Main Street in Salt Lake City Saturday evening. Police said they were searching for a hit-and-run driver.
At approximately 6:27 p.m., an officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department was patrolling the Ballpark neighborhood when they came across a crash “moments after it occurred,” according to a release from the SLCPD. The officer reportedly found two people on the ground, a 53-year-old and an 18-year-old, with injuries.
The officer called other first responders who began lifesaving measures, “including applying a tourniquet on a 53-year-old man,” the release said.
Authorities confirmed the two people with injuries were both on the motorcycle, with the 53-year-old driving.
According to witnesses and a preliminary investigation, police said the suspected car was heading north on Main St. when the driver pulled over near Cleveland Ave. to make a U-turn. The two injured were reportedly on a motorcycle when the car turned into them and continued driving.
The car involved was described as “a gray or light-colored Ford compact car with significant frontend damage,” and would likely require repairs, police said.
SLCPD asked that anyone with information on the suspect car call 801-799-3000.
Authorities closed the street between Cleveland and Kensington for the investigation.
