Gov. Cox orders state flags to fly at full staff on Inauguration Day

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has ordered U.S. and Utah flags on state buildings to be raised Monday when former President Donald Trump is inaugurated.
The White House ordered that flags fly at half-staff for 30 days after the death of President Jimmy Carter on December 29, 2024.

Along with the order to raise U.S. flags on Inauguration Day, Cox’s order has flags on state buildings returning to half-staff at sunset on the same day.
President-elect Trump posted on Truth Social earlier this month that Democrats were “giddy” about the flag flying at “half mast” during his inauguration. He said no one wants to see the flag half-staff.
House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered U.S. flags at the capitol to fly full-staff on Tuesday.
On January 20th, the flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff to celebrate our country coming together behind the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump.
The flags will be lowered back to half-staff the following day to continue honoring President Jimmy Carter.

Gov. Cox joins other Republican governors who have ordered flags on their state buildings to fly at full-staff on Inauguration Day.
Additionally, Cox extended an invitation to raise the flags on January 20 to private citizens and businesses.
KSL NewsRadio has learned that Gov. Cox will be in Washington D.C. attending the inauguration on Monday.
