Human remains found in West Valley pond

SALT LAKE CITY — A fisherman found human remains while fishing at a pond in West Valley on Tuesday night.
According to police, someone fishing near 4220 West Lake Park Boulevard reported seeing a human skull in the pond just after 7 p.m.
“He was right,” said West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt. “He found a human skull that was floating in the water. So we called our detectives. The detectives in turn called the medical examiner’s office.”
Merritt said detectives recovered a handful of different human bones.
Just after 7 o’clock tonight, a person fishing in a pond in the area of 4220 W. Lake Park Blvd. spotted what appeared to be human bones near the edge of a pond. Officers responded and confirmed that the bones appear to be human remains. 1/2

According to Merritt, it could be difficult to figure out who the bones belong to, since there are no unsolved homicides.
The investigation is ongoing.
