Motorcyclist in ‘extremely critical’ condition after crash on Bangerter Highway

DRAPER — A motorcyclist was left with critical injuries after a crash on Bangerter Highway near Draper Thursday evening. 

According to Sgt. Mike Alexander with Utah Highway Patrol, a passenger car and a motorcycle were involved in the crash.

Lt. Erik Beesley with UHP confirmed that at approximately 4:20 p.m., a Subaru was heading eastbound and driving in the fast lane when a motorcyclist came up behind the car going faster than the speed limit. 

The motorcyclist then attempted to make a lane change and, in the process, hit the back of the Subaru.

The man driving the motorcycle had a pulse when help arrived on scene and was rushed to the hospital. 

The man on his motorcycle had “extremely critical injuries,” according to Sgt. Alexander. 

Lt. Beesley said it is unknown if the motorcyclist will survive at this time, but is currently alive. 

Police initially believed the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, after not locating one at the scene. A helmet shield was discovered at the scene later during the investigation, and police clarified the helmet was likely knocked off in the crash.

 All of Bangerter Hwy eastbound was shut down at 600 West, with traffic being diverted to 500 West. Closures were expected until approximately 6 p.m. Thursday.
