I-80 crash leaves pedestrian dead, UHP says

SUMMIT COUNTY — A crash on I-80 killed a pedestrian Friday night, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Trooper Davies Sanchez with UHP said the crash happened around mile marker 145 near a construction zone at approximately 11:59 p.m.
A vehicle was stopped as the driver exited and was attempting to cross the interstate towards the construction site.
A pickup truck then hit the man. Life-saving measures were performed, and the pedestrian was reported dead as he was airlifted to the University of Utah hospital.
Sanchez said the man was identified as 28-year-old Joel Sotelo Cabrera from West Jordan, UT.
UHP suspects the man was impaired while driving.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
