Police: Domestic violence leads to SWAT response in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY – A man was arrested after police said he assaulted multiple family members, then barricaded himself in a West Valley City residence Thursday night.
Hector Martinez, 31, was arrested by police Thursday for the offenses of aggravated assault and domestic violence, domestic violence in the presence of a minor, domestic violence assault, domestic violence threats and intoxication.
At approximately 11:13 p.m., the West Valley City Police Department said a family member of Hector Martinez called police to report he was intoxicated and threw a knife at his mother at a residence near Willow Hollow Road.
Hector Martinez then reportedly assaulted his father, “causing a substantial injury to the father’s face,” the West Valley Police Department said.
Police and their K9 officers arrived, police said, and Hector Martinez reportedly went inside the residence, refusing to come out “despite numerous commands being given.”
Police said investigators were granted a search warrant for the residence, and a SWAT team was called to help with a barricade operation.
“Ultimately, Hector surrendered,” police said.
