Multiple power outages affecting thousands of Utahns

SALT LAKE CITY — Several power outages affected different communities around Utah Thursday.
These include outages in Mapleton, Bluffdale and Layton.
Mapleton power outage
According to Rocky Mountain Power, as of the time of writing this article, an outage is affecting around 1,000 customers in Mapleton.
The Mapleton City Fire Department posted to Facebook said the outage was caused by a transformer that caught fire. It said Rocky Mountain Power is on the scene and estimates the transformer will take two to four hours to repair.
1,300 in Bluffdale without power
As of the time of writing this article, around 1,300 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Bluffdale are affected by a power outage.
According to Rocky Mountain Power, the cause of this outage is due to enhanced safety settings. The Rocky Mountain Power website explains “enhanced safety settings are used to prevent wildfires from starting.”

Power returning to Layton
At around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, just over 4,400 customers were without power. That number has since gone down to 870 as of he time of writing this article.
At this time, Rocky Mountain Power said it is assessing an estimated time of restoration and crews are working to restore power.
