SALT LAKE CITY — Four structures have been lost in the Babylon Fire, the U.S. Forest Service announced Tuesday.

The structures, three owned by the Forest Service and one owned by The Nature Conservancy, were destroyed in the flames, the Forest Service said in a news release.

The Babylon Fire started on Friday in San Juan County. As of Monday, the acreage was 38,399 with 0% containment.

The Forest Service reported the fire experienced wind-driven growth on Tuesday. Crews are now using natural breaks in the fire to establish security around portions of its perimeter.

“By leveraging these natural firebreaks, crews can effectively work toward containment while minimizing the risk to firefighter safety in challenging terrain,” the Forest Service said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a red flag warning remained in effect for the area due to gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuels.

All Forest Service land, roads and trails within the Monticello Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest are closed as crews battle the blaze.
