Shooting and train crash in SLC likely related, two in critical condition

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating two incidents involving two men in critical condition; both were injured at about 5 a.m. on Friday. Police say the incidents are likely related, but they are still investigating.

Police were called to the area of 230 South 600 West on reports of gunshots just before 5 a.m. When they arrived, they found a crime scene. Moments later, they say a man showed up at a local hospital with gunshot wounds and did not arrive via ambulance.

According to an SLCPD X post, officers believe the suspect fled the scene, but the public was in no immediate risk.

Spokesperson Brent Weisberg, SLCPD, said, “We’re trying to determine if the person who was hit by the train is somehow involved with the situation that happened here at the shooting. It looks like that. But we are still investigating.”

Police ask anyone with information to call 801-799-3000. Officers do not believe these incidents are in any way related to the 4th of July holiday.
