Skier dies at Solitude from apparent crash, officials say

BRIGHTON, Utah — A skier has died at Solitude from what appears to be a crash.

Approximately 1:15pm, according to Sgt. Aymee Race with Unified Police Department, a call was made that a man had been found unresponsive and that it appeared they may have crashed into a tree. 

Race said the man has been identified as Daniel Negrelli, 53, from Canton, Connecticut.

Negrelli was wearing a helmet and proper gear and was found near the bottom of the middle slope. Ski patrol responded and preformed life saving measures, but Negrelli did eventually succumbed to their injuries. 

On Monday, WVIT reported that Negrelli was a computer applications instructor at A.I. Prince Technical High School in Hartford.

Negrelli was also a ski instructor at the Killington Resort in Vermont, where he joined the resort’s mountain sports team in 1997.

“Dan’s love for skiing and teaching was evident in everything he did. He was not only a dedicated instructor but also a passionate supporter of the sport, always willing to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. His presence on the mountain will be sorely missed,” said Amy Laramie, Killington Resorts’s vice president of brand marketing and events, in a statement to WVIT.
