OGDEN — A 16-year-old is wanted for homicide after the deadly shooting of a teen near Ben Lomond High School.

Isaias Emanuel Carranza was identified by Ogden police as the suspect, and a warrant for his arrest for aggravated murder was issued. However, police were still working to locate him on Friday.

“If located, do not approach and contact your local law enforcement,” Ogden police said.

The shooting took the life of another 16-year-old, Mason Caballero, who was a student at Ben Lomond High School. It was determined through court documents that Carranza would be charged as an adult in the crime.

The warrant for Carranza said surveillance footage from the scene of the shooting showed a man driving a black sedan, leaning out of the driver’s side door and firing a handgun.

The document said police identified the owner of the vehicle, who said the car had been given to Carranza. Cell phone data reportedly placed Carranza “in the direct area of the homicide at the time it occurred.” Documents also said that Carranza is affiliated with the 18th Street gang and that he attended Ogden High School.

Caballero was reportedly in the back seat of a car with at least two other people at the time he was shot.

“Investigators learned from witnesses and video surveillance that the victim vehicle was approaching 5th Street and Gramercy Avenue … When they began getting shot at by the occupants of a black vehicle which was following them,” the warrant said.

The victim’s vehicle was hit twice, with one bullet entering through the trunk and killing Caballero, the warrant said. Another shot passed through the car, narrowly missing the driver.

The front passenger of the victim’s car was a “dropout” of the same gang as Carranza, according to the warrant. It said he “has been targeted by his former gang members because of this.”

Officers performed a search of Carranza’s home after obtaining the warrant, and found “multiple firearm parts” in his room.

According to the indictment, Carranza is accused of felony aggravated murder, two counts of felony attempted murder, 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a minor. It was also determined that Carranza would be charged as an adult in the crime.
