SALT LAKE CITY — A house fire Tuesday evening claimed the life of a woman in West Haven. So far, firefighters are only releasing preliminary information.
They told KSL the fire was out, but the road remains blocked off for investigators who are still on scene trying to determine how the woman died – whether it was before the fire or because of it.
According to David Reed, Weber Fire District’s deputy chief, the fire broke out near 4300 S and 3450 W.
Weber Fire District’s chief said they received a call around 6:15 p.m. They believe it was reported after someone saw smoke emerging from the house.
Three engines arrived on the scene; one from Roy Fire Department and two from the Weber Fire Department.
Search and rescue teams entered the home and found one dead female. Two dogs were also found at the scene and they are safe. No other injuries were reported.
Although the West Haven house fire has been extinguished, 3450 W. remains closed.
Reed said 3450 W. is currently closed. The West Haven house fire has been extinguished.
Firefighters believe the West Haven house fire started in an upstairs bathroom, however, information is limited.
“They’re just going to go through it with a fine-tooth comb and get the cause and origin of the fire and the same with the deceased individual,” said Reed.
Weber County Fire Marshal’s Office and Weber County Sheriff’s Office will conduct an investigation. They are currently unsure if the woman died before the fire or because of it.
This is a breaking news story. It may be udpated.
