19-year-old driver arrested after person killed in Taylorsville auto-pedestrian crash

TAYLORSVILLE — A 19-year-old driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near 4900 S. 4015 West early Sunday.

Police initially responded to a hit-and-run crash at 3900 W. 5400 South in Taylorsville, according to an affidavit. Soon after, at about 2:20 a.m., they received a report of an auto-pedestrian accident a short distance away with a vehicle matching the description from the first incident, police said.

There police found 19-year-old driver Aron Jimenez Contreras performing CPR on the person who was struck, according to a probable cause statement. The male was declared dead when first responders arrived, Taylorsville Police Sgt. Evan Keller said.

The identity of the person who was killed was not released.

Contreras told police that his vision was impaired because he was eating while driving and had consumed a couple of beers prior to the accident, according to the affidavit. He was arrested for investigation of negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death, driving under the influence, speeding, causing an accident involving property damage, reckless driving and careless driving, according to a police affidavit.
