2 Utah women killed in Arizona crash

LITTLEFIELD, Arizona —Two women from the St. George area died Saturday in a crash in Arizona while they were on their way to Las Vegas.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the crash happened Saturday at 1:36 p.m. just a few miles south of the Utah-Arizona border on I-15. Agency spokesman Bart Graves said the car was traveling southbound when it went off to the left and hit the median.

Graves said after hitting the median, the car went to the right, crossing both southbound lanes where it collided with a guardrail.

He said three of the seven occupants were ejected from the car, and two of them died on scene. The families identified the victims as Mercedes Cecilia Torreblanca and Guadalupe “Lupita” Montalvo in two GoFundMe* pages.

Torreblanca left behind a 2-month-old baby, her husband, parents and sisters.

“As we grieve her non existence we please ask for your help to cover her funeral and burial services. We loved our sister dearly and we know many of you did too. We appreciate the help and the prayers to our family,” the Torreblanca GoFundMe* page states. The page says the women were on their way to visit Las Vegas with friends.

It is still unknown why the car veered off the roadway. The roadway was closed for almost seven hours after the crash.

“As of now my family and I are devastated of what happen to my beautiful sister. She was a loving caring person and would always be there for her family and friends,” Montalvo’s brother said on her GoFundMe* page. “She was the world to me. All the great memories that me and her had as a child will always be in my heart.”
