4 people flee from police and attempt to hide in West Jordan home, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — Two people with arrest warrants who tried to escape from police custody were eventually arrested by SWAT Tuesday night.
According to a police affidavit, Unified police officers attempted to stop the driver of a white Nissan Altima for a traffic violation near 1300 S. and 200 E. Officers reported that the Nissan driver fled after seeing their emergency lights.
When officers learned the car was owned by 31-year-old Jacob Duing, who had several warrants for his arrest, police called for a Department of Transportation helicopter to follow them.
“The vehicle was monitored by the UHP helicopter as it fled around the valley from the Salt Lake City area,” the affidavit stated. “The car came to a stop near 4664 W. Black Elk Way.”
Police said four people, including Duing, fled from the car and entered a home near 9300 S. Copper Lane. Officers reported that the four ignored their commands to stop while fleeing on foot.
“The house was surrounded by police, and they were advised that a warrant was authored and granted for the search of the residence and for them to come out,” the affidavit stated. “The suspect failed to comply and did not come out.”
The West Jordan Police Department SWAT was called to assist in removing the four people from the home and arresting them.
According to the affidavit, SWAT found Duing and the other three trying to hide in the basement. The four still refused to come out and had to be forcibly arrested by SWAT.
Police identified the three other people as Tanner Joseph Christensen, 28, Ashlyn Kennedee Heaton, 19, and Payton Kaleinani Cockett, 19.

According to the affidavit, Christensen was driving the Nissan and admitted to police that he had fled when he saw the emergency lights. Christensen had an arrest warrant for fleeing from police in a 2024 incident and was on probation.
While being arrested, Heaton and Cockett told officers “to the (extent) of if I did not run from the cop would I still be in trouble,” according to the affidavit. Heaton was on parole for a previous offense.
According to court documents, Duing was wanted for fleeing from police in May 2024 and disarming a police officer in August 2024.
Heaton and Cockett were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, a class-A misdemeanor, and obstructing service of a board of warrant, a third-degree felony, according to the affidavit.
Duing and Christensen were booked on suspicion of obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony, and failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, a class-A misdemeanor. Christensen was also booked on suspicion of failing to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, a third-degree felony.
