LEHI, Utah — The driver of a cement truck involved in a November crash in Lehi that took the life of a deputy with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Wednesday.

Police say Jonas Hyrum Faamausili, 26, was driving an Alta View Concrete Mixer Truck southbound on Redwood Road just before 5 a.m. on Nov. 12.

The probable cause statement says the driver “deliberately ran through two red lights, failing to try to brake or stop for either.”

According to the probable cause statement, moments later the truck T-boned a vehicle driven by Joel Baker. At the time, Baker was on his way to work at the Salt Lake County Jail.

The probable cause statement says that a review of the dash camera in the cement truck was performed. It found the suspect to be traveling faster than the posted speed limit. In addition to running the two red lights, police say the suspect was allegedly operating the vehicle recklessly.

The probable cause statement also says an inspection on the truck was performed. It found that more than 20% of the brakes were inoperable.

Faamausili was cooperative with authorities and was taken into custody without incident.

The probable cause statement says the suspect was booked into the Utah County Jail. He was booked for investigation of reckless driving and manslaughter.
