SALT LAKE CITY — A federal appeals court has upheld a verdict that found President-elect Donald Trump guilty of sexual abuse and defamation.
According to Reuters, in 2023 Trump was ordered to pay $5 million to magazine writer E. Jean Carroll after she accused him of sexual abuse in the 1990s. She also accused him of defaming her by calling her a liar in an October 2022 Truth Social post.
In the post, Trump denied Carroll’s claim calling it a hoax.
The verdict was issued by a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Jurors awarded Carroll $2.02 million for sexual assault and $2.98 million for defamation.
