Four people charged with kidnapping after Amber Alert issued

SALT LAKE CITY — Four people at the center of Friday’s Amber Alert were formally charged with kidnapping on Wednesday.

An Amber Alert was issued Friday night following the alleged kidnapping of a 1-year-old girl. The girl was found safe within several hours and taken into state custody.

On Tuesday, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill charged Holly Smith, the mother of the baby, with first-degree felony kidnapping and two other misdemeanors.

Smith is accused of fleeing with her daughter after a judge took her custody away.

Three men who allegedly helped Smith, Joey Jimenez, Eric Jimenez, and Jose Francisco Robles-Prieto were also charged with kidnapping.

“We appreciate the people in our community who helped police get the information they needed to help find this baby and take her to safety. The vigilance of every citizen during an AMBER Alert can help save a child’s life,” Gill wrote in a news release.
