Man accused of chasing, threatening child with knife

SALT LAKE CITY — One man was arrested after allegedly chasing and threatening a child with a knife
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, a woman reported the incident on Oct. 20. She said that 32-year-old Hide Matsumura had chased her son with a knife.
The incident occurred in Salt Lake City near 200 N. and 900 West.
Officials accuse Matsumura of threatening the child, saying he would cut his mouth off.
One witness said that she saw Matsumura chase the child. However, court documents said that Matsumura denied it.
Following the report, an officer from SLCPD spoke with Matsumura. He said that some children were making noise. His wife had gone outside to ask them to be quiet.
Allegedly, one of the children yelled at his wife, prompting Matsumura to go outside while he was holding a kitchen knife.
Matsumura could face one count of aggravated assault, which is a third-degree felony.
Officials charged Matsumura because he threatened someone, according to the probable cause statement. That threat was “accompanied by a show of immediate force or violence.”
Personal recognizance release
According to court documents, officials released Matsumura from jail on personal recognizance.
The Utah State Legislature website explained that a release on personal recognizance allows someone accused of a crime to leave jail by signing an agreement stating they will appear at required court dates.
Personal recognizance release is a non-financial condition, meaning that the defendant was not required to provide money for their bail.
