CEDAR CITY, Utah — One man is in custody after police say he attempted multiple burglaries at a home, a gas station and a pawn shop Thursday.

According to a probable cause statement from the Cedar City Police Department, Cory Scott Kaiser, 19, broke into a home located near Crescent Hills Drive through a bathroom window.

Police said he then took a knife from the kitchen. As he was walking through the home, the residents heard Kaiser and locked their bedroom door. The residents made noise from inside attempting to scare him. This worked and Kaiser fled the scene through the front door.

Following this, police said they received reports of the shattered window of a gas station door located at 1495 W. 200 N. Upon their arrival, police discovered a rock thrown through the window.

A suspect, who police identified as Kaiser, had entered the gas station through this shattered window. However, when an alarm was triggered, Kaiser once again fled the scene. Police say they saw Kaiser wearing all black with a red beanie on surveillance footage, breaking the window and entering the building.

Forty minutes later, CCPD received a report of an active burglary at the Cedar Post Pawn Shop.

According to the probable cause statement, multiple motion detection alarms were triggered. Upon his arrival, Officer Benjamin Peterson noticed the pawn shop’s damaged back door along with multiple shattered windows.

Before entering the building, Peterson announced himself and saw Kaiser exit from behind the pawn shop’s gun counter. From here, police took Kaiser into custody and gave him his Miranda rights.

Confessing to multiple attempted burglaries

According to the probable cause statement, Kaiser confessed to police that he entered the residence to “see if there was anything he wanted.”

Police said Kaiser grabbed the knife to attempt to pry open doors in the home. He also confessed to breaking into the gas station and the pawn shop.

Police arrested Kaiser on suspicion of aggravated burglary and property damage/destruction.
