Man arrested for alleged intentional hit-and-run with SUV full of kids

SALT LAKE CITY— A man is now in police custody following a hit-and-run that officers believe was intentional.
Salt Lake City Police Department said this happened on Christmas Eve around 3:40 p.m. in the area of 300 South and 1100 West in the Glendale neighborhood.
SLPD Spokesperson Brent Weisberg told KSL NewsRadio a man was in town visiting family and was trying to get his three kids unloaded from his parked SUV.
Weisberg said the suspect, Michael Norvell, 51, waited for the man to exit the vehicle. He then accelerated and rammed into the back of the SUV with the kids still inside.
The victim told responding officers that he had to jump onto Norvell’s Vehicle at the last second to avoid being pinned or seriously injured.
Weisberg said, fortunately, no one was hurt, including the suspect.
Police also said in a statement that, as of now, Norvell has no connection to the victim. This was a random, isolated incident.
Police later arrested Norvell, who they said admitted to them that he intentionally hit the victim’s SUV.
He was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. Norvell was booked for suspicion of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, DUI and other potential charges.
