Man dies in Millcreek fire, box trailer used as housing destroyed

SALT LAKE CITY — The Unified Fire Department said an adult male died in Millcreek late Tuesday night in a fire that began in a box trailer.
According to a post on X, Unified Fire said the Millcreek fire was near 4072 S. Main Street. It began at around 11:15 p.m.
Police said the victim was in his 60s. They are working to identify him and notify his next of kin. The victim’s dog survived the blaze and was taken to neighbors.
According to the social media post, the structure was a box trailer that was roughly 5 feet by 15 feet being used as a temporary shelter.
According to Unified Fire, the victim wasn’t discovered until 10 minutes after the fire was out.
United Fire officials said the Millcreek fire began as an accidental cooking fire.
