TOOELE Police in Tooele have identified a man who was shot and killed by officers on Wednesday as 43-year-old Jason Todd Shaw.

They said the shooting occurred as they attempted to question Shaw about another shooting that took place on Tuesday.

The Tooele Police Department said it responded to the first shooting at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday at the Quality Quick Stop located at 188 N. Broadway Avenue.

The department said the victim was a man in his forties. When officers got to the scene of the shooting, they administered medical care before he was taken to the hospital. Police did not say what his condition was when he got there.

Police said the person who fired the shots fled the scene before officers arrived. The department identified 43-year-old Jason Shaw as a person of interest, and Shaw was officially identified on Thursday.

If you have any information in regards to this case, we ask that you contact dispatch at (435) 882-5600 option 1 and ask to speak to Detective Day,” police said.

By 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, officers were investigating the shooting near the Charritos Mexican restaurant in Tooele. While searching for leads, a 40-year-old man approached officers with a firearm, prompting them to fire, according to Sgt. Colby Bentley with Tooele police.

The man died of his injuries shortly afterward.

Eastbound 1180 N Main St. in Tooele was shutdown, though Main Street in Tooele remained open.
