SALT LAKE CITY — A 27-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday by Salt Lake City police after a two-hour standoff on a rooftop, following an alleged domestic violence situation.

Police say they were called to an apartment in the area of 200 N. Main Street around 4 p.m. During the investigation, authorities learned the suspect allegedly refused to let a woman leave the apartment. Additionally, he allegedly physically held her against the wall.

Police say the woman was able to escape with minor injuries and fled the apartment.

Later, officers returned to the apartment to talk to the suspect, who has been identified as Khari Haynes. However, the suspect jumped from a third-floor balcony and ran from the scene.

One of the responding officers caught up to the suspect. However, he was able to climb over a fence and dropped down a 20-foot wall.

Additional resources including a helicopter were called in to look for Haynes. The helicopter spotted Haynes on a rooftop in the area of 36 E. 200 North.

Haynes refused to cooperate with police, and threatened hurt himself.

After two hours of communicating with police, Haynes came down off the rooftop. He was safely taken into custody, and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police booked Haynes into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault, domestic violence detention and failure to stop at the command of a police officer.
