WEST POINT, Utah – A domestic incident in West Point City on Monday night turned into a fatal shooting, according to Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said Davis County Dispatch received a report of a domestic issue at a home near 670 N. 2300 W.
Upon arrival, a deputy spoke to family members, learning that 43-year-old Nathan Paul was possibly having a mental health episode.
Deputies said they responded to the house the night before for a similar situation. Paul was allegedly sent to the hospital Sunday night but was let out Monday morning, according to deputies.
Clinton City Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Department when they found Paul was armed. As the situation continued, police said two Clinton officers discharged their weapons, striking Paul.
According to a statement from CCPD, Paul was pronounced deceased on the scene.
CCPD said the two Clinton officers have been placed on administrative leave. The investigation is being handled by the Davis County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Protocol Team.
“The Clinton City Police Department extends our sincere condolences to all affected by this incident, and we support the Davis County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Protocol Team in their investigation,” Clinton Police Chief Shawn Stoker said.
