SALT LAKE CITY — A second teen has died of injuries sustained in a shooting and crash in West Valley City Friday night, police said.

The second teen was one of two occupants of a car that left a Halloween party and then crashed at 5300 South State St. according to police.

The West Valley City Police Department said just before midnight, police responded to a report of shots fired at a party near 2600 W. 4000 S.

In a post to X, WVCPD said the shooting occurred during an altercation at the party, where several people “spilled into the street” and “multiple parties began shooting at one another” before fleeing the scene.

During their investigation, police found shell casings. Shortly after this, the Murray Police Department contacted WVCPD about a crash at 5300 South State St. involving a 17-year-old male and 17-year-old female.

Upon their arrival to the scene, officers determined both teens had gunshot wounds. They also determined the 17-year-old male was deceased and the 17-year-old girl was in critical condition.

The girl was taken to Intermountain Health Intermountain Medical Center to be treated for her wounds. On Monday, WVCPD said she was upgraded to stable condition. On Wednesday police reported she had died.

Police said the suspects of the shooting have not been caught and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests had been made by Monday, and WVCPD said investigators were working “day and night” on the case.

*Police had previous reported the female teenager was 15. The West Valley City Police Department has since confirmed that she was 17.
