Driver suffered “medical incident” before crashing into Pleasant Grove homes

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah — One person is in the hospital and three apartment units are considered unlivable after a pickup truck crashed into an apartment complex in Pleasant Grove on Monday.
Firefighters quickly rushed to the BLVD 120 buildings off Pleasant Grove Boulevard and 100 South Monday morning. First responders found a pickup truck crashed into the ground-level apartments, sending thick black smoke to the upper levels.

“The truck was still running and people were all over the place running from the building so it was quite the chaotic scene there for a minute,” said Pleasant Grove Fire Battalion Chief Jake Larsen.
Larsen said the crash left one man pinned behind the truck. Crews turned the truck off and rescued him. He was taken by LifeFlight to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where he had surgery.
The truck driver was also hospitalized for wounds he received in the crash.
Another victim was able to walk out on their own.
On Tuesday, Pleasant Grove Police confirmed that a young man on his way to work had a “sudden medical condition” that left him unconscious while he was driving his truck.
Three units won’t be livable for a time. No word on how much it’s going to cost to fix them.
“Definitely not a typical Monday, for sure,” Larsen said.
