Police release identity of man who died at Settlement Canyon Reservoir

TOOELE, Utah — Police have released the name of the man whose body was recovered after he fell through the ice at Settlement Canyon Reservoir on Monday night.
The 20-year-old man was identified as Emaloni Lutui, a deputy with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office who graduated from the Sheriff’s Office Academy on Jan. 11.
Lutui was attempting to rescue a woman who had fallen through the ice but by doing so, fell through the ice himself. The woman was treated and transported to a hospital.
Sheriff Rosie Rivera said they [the department] are heartbroken by his death, adding Lutui displayed extraordinary courage and selflessness.
The irrigation company that owns the reservoir has now closed off public access.
