Shelter in place lifted for residents in Sugar House neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY — A situation that led to a standoff between a suspect in a Sugar House home and Salt Lake City Police has ended safely with the suspect in custody.
A shelter-in-place order issued by Salt Lake City Police earlier Wednesday morning has been lifted. The order involved residents between Zenith and Crandall Avenues and between 1100 and 1300 East, in Sugar House.
According to a tweet from SLCPD, their SWAT team was able to enter the home near 1100 East and Zenith Avenue where they took a suspect into custody after receiving a court-authorized warrant.
They were initially called to the scene to investigate a potential domestic violence incident, said Det. Benjamin Nielsen with SlCPD.
After their investigation began, they found that multiple people were inside the home. Nielsen said that when communication with the occupants broke down, police called for help from their SWAT team as well as crisis negotiators.
The suspect was taken into custody and the involvement of the other people in the home is still being investigated, Nielsen said.
There were no injuries and all associated street closures have been lifted.
