SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Mike Kennedy, R-Alpine, recently posted to Facebook addressing the vandalism of his home.
Graffiti on the front of Kennedy’s house read “fash” possibly short for fascist and also includes a slur directed towards transgender people. The phrase including the slur reads, “(slur) bash back.”
Kennedy sponsored SB16 this year, which banned transgender-related surgery and puberty blockers for minors.
In his Facebook post, Kennedy said that he is not intimidated by the vandalism.
“I will not be intimidated by your cowardly actions. I will not back down from fighting for what is right and just. Your attempt to threaten and silence me will only make me louder,” read the Facebook post.
Equality Utah responded to the vandalism on Twitter with a statement condemning the actions.
“These heinous acts do not help LGBTQ Utahns. They do not advance a climate of equality,” read the statement.
