SALT LAKE CITY — Last night the Salt Lake City Police Department, SLCPD, SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were called after a community member heard a female yelling for 9-1-1.

The suspect is 35-year-old Andrew Taylor, who was previously booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, on Sept. 14, 2022. His charges consist of violating a protective order, assault, and domestic violence in the presence of a child said SLCPD in a press release.

SLCPD says the 9-1-1 call occurred around 11:52 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2022. The caller told dispatch that it sounded like a fight was ensuing. Once officers came, they confirmed the female victim left the area before their arrival.

Upon arrival, officers found signs of disturbance around the apartment says the press release. Therefore, additional patrol resources, including a patrol supervisor responded as well.

Once the suspect was located, police began talking to him but he refused to comply. Taylor made it known he has access to a firearm.

According to police, at 2:44 a.m. the on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of the department’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross staged nearby the incident.

While attempting to get the suspect to comply, officers got a court-authorized search warrant.

With no response from the suspect, SWAT officers entered the home today at 6:13 a.m. Then, officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Once medically evaluated, Taylor will be booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail. It is believed that the suspect inflicted hard on himself while inside the apartment before officers entered.

Taylor agreed upon his previous release from jail to have no contact with the victim in his earlier case, which happens to be the victim in this case.
