ST. GEORGE — An intoxicated Washington County man who police say stabbed two people inside a southern Utah home has been arrested.

Elian de Jesus Arias Sierra, 22, was charged Monday in 5th District Court with two counts of attempted murder, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a restricted person, third-degree felonies; marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.

St. George police responded Friday night to a residence where a 21-year-old woman had been stabbed “multiple times including in the head, shoulder, hands and neck with a knife,” and a 33-year-old man was stabbed in the hand, according to a police booking affidavit.

“Elian was found at the scene with blood on his hands, face, neck and clothing. Prior to being asked any questions about the case Elian had excited utterances of ‘I love her,'” the affidavit states.

The woman told police she was asleep in a bedroom when “she woke up to (Sierra) stabbing her. She reported he said to her, ‘I want to kill you’ and ‘I’m going to kill you.’ She reported there had not been any prior argument and she did not know why he had attacked her,” according to the affidavit.

When the 33-year-old man in another room heard the commotion, he ran into the room and was also stabbed while trying to restrain Sierra.

“Elian also stated that he was going to kill everyone in the home,” the affidavit states.

Police determined that Sierra had been drinking and “was intoxicated to the point he was a danger to others.” Marijuana was also found in his room.

The injuries to the man and woman were not considered life-threatening.
