SANDY, Utah — A 16-year-old suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting on Thursday. This happened near 9000 South and Monroe Street, according to Sgt. Greg Moffitt with Sandy Police.
Before the shooting, police were following a stolen vehicle without their lights or sirens flashing. However, the vehicle began to drive away and police pursued it, Moffitt said.
During the pursuit, a motorcyclist was hit.
Then, Moffitt said once police caught up to the vehicle, shots were fired and the suspect was injured.
Both the suspect and motorcyclist were transported to the hospital. According to Moffitt, the teen suspect died as a result of injuries from the shooting.
There are no updates on the motorcyclist.
The Officer Involved Critical Incident team is taking over the investigation, Moffitt says.
